Upgrading from a previous version

Normally it is a straightforward process to upgrade the MOSEK software i.e. uninstall the old version and then install the new version.

Minor upgrade

A minor upgrade is when the major version number does not change i.e. upgrading from version x.y to version x.z. For minor upgrades a new license file is not required.

Major upgrade

A major upgrade is when the major version number change e.g. upgrading from version 5 to version 6 is major upgrade. Before performing a major upgrade we recommend that you

  • read the appropriate release notes.
  • obtain a new license file supporting the new version.  Only licenses under maintenance can be upgraded free of charge.

Next you should

  • install the software.
  • install the new license file. It is is important you use the new version of the software to install the license file.

Regarding the backward compability then even if the license server is upgraded to say version 6  then version 5 software can still be used without problems.

Version 6 specific upgrade information

An important change in MOSEK version 6 is that all the functionality of the PTOC product  has been included in the PTON product. This has implications for the license files. Therefore,

  • if you have a PTOC product we will automatically convert it to a PTON product.
  • all version 6 license files will contain the same number of PTOC and PTON features for backward compability.
